Dr. Katherine Phillips Lectures to Sleep Fellows at Baylor College

The Sleep Fellows at Baylor College of Medicine had an opportunity to learn about alternative treatments to CPAPtherapy last month when Dr. Katherine Phillips stopped by for a guest lecture. Dr. Phillips shared a comprehensive review of Oral Appliance Therapy along with the current guidelines and practice parameters.

As a new Sleep Physician, learning to screen patients who cannot tolerate a CPAP machine for alternative treatments provides useful knowledge as they head into practice. Dr. Phillips reviewed the many different types of Mandibular Advancement Devices, how to evaluate a patient for effectiveness and her thought process on appropriate appliance section for different patient types.

When it comes to successful treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apneautilizing Oral Appliance Therapy, there is no one size fits all, and matching a patient to the proper treatment plan makes a big difference in patient comfort, compliance, and success.

Using her 11 plus years specializing in this area and over 5000 patients treated, Dr. Phillips lead the Fellows through several case studies of interest, answering questions, and sharing her unique clinical experience.
